Unidentified Caterpillars, Pupae, & Eggs

Short of raising them to moths, I don't know how I'm going to identify all the inchworms.

(Lower Vine Brook, 8/13/16 12pm) On milkweed pod.

(Lower Vine Brook, 7/24/19 7pm) On ironweed.

(Lower Vine Brook, 7/22/13 11pm) On Joe-Pye Weed. I was going to try to raise it to a moth, but I bumped into the plant and the caterpillar fell and I couldn't find it again. It was ~ 4 cm long.

(Lower Vine Brook, 6/10/12 12pm) This little guy means business. Each hair is secreting a defensive fluid.

(Lower Vine Brook, 5/12/12 12pm) I think this caterpillar may have fallen from a tree onto the fern, rather than it eating the fern.

(Lexington, 6/2/06 3pm (2), 6/16/06 11am (2)) This poor guy turned out to be parasitized. The eggs are just visible as grey blotches about midbody in the first 2 photos. After 14 days they were large larvae.

(Lower Vine Brook,7/30/11 3pm, 7/31/11 11pm) Unfortunately, I think this caterpillar was eaten the next night.

(Lexington, 6/6/06 3pm) Scale in mm.

(Lexington, 6/6/06 3pm) I think this is a butterfly caterpillar, but I'm not sure yet. It was found on an oak tree trunk. In this photo, it was trying to curl up around a small twig (hidden under it). In an effort to let it relax, I fell asleep with my son. When I awoke 1/2 hour later, I couldn't find it on my desk. It never reappeared!

(Dunback Meadow, 9/18/11 2pm) On a rudbeckia-like flower. They (one per flower) folded a petal over to cover themselves.

(Lexington, 5/29/04 11pm, Lower Vine Brook, 5/30/11 5pm) This caterpillar is in a terrarium in the hope it will successfully complete its metamorphosis. Unfortunately, I caught it with a sweep net in the meadow and I'm not sure what it eats. It has some grass and a couple of other low plants. 6/26/11 -- no sign of a moth. I think it failed in its metamorphosis.

(Lexington, 5/30/08 1am)

(Lower Vine Brook,7/16/11 5pm) A first or second instar larva. This caterpillar disappeared from the terrarium the next night, but the caterpillar below was there.

(Lower Vine Brook,7/17/11 5pm) It doesn't look much like the caterpillar above, and was too much bigger to be a 1 night growth, but I didn't see it on the leaf I put in. It disappeared the next day.

(Lower Vine Brook, 5/26/13 5pm) I might already know what this is, but can't remember at the moment.

(Lower Vine Brook, 5/26/13 5pm) I'm not 100% sure this is a caterpillar and not a sawfly.
