Fish

(Lower Vine Brook, 4/10/10 5:25pm, 4/11/10 12pm) Catostomidae sp.?, perhaps Catostomus commersoni (Common white suckerfish), or perhaps a dace or a chub. I don't know if the eggs (I think) are from the fish or not, but I've never seen anything else in the stream that could have laid them. The fish have sucker-like mouths which they use to either nibble something off the rocks, or to hold on to the rocks, or both. They preferred a section of the stream with a rocky (1" - 6" diameter, approximately) bottom and did not like the sandy/silty areas which comprise most of the stream.

(Lower Vine Brook, 7/13/14 2pm) I don't have any real hope of identifying these from the photo, but it was nice to see little "minnows" swimming in the stream.
